JD's ClipCatch

The contents of the standard Windows clipboard change as you use it to copy and paste various types of information. But your data isn't stored for a long time - when you turn off the computer or just copy another piece of information, the data is lost.

In most cases, that isn't a problem, but have you ever needed the text you copied 30 minutes or an hour ago? Maybe your computer is acting up and the program you are using hasn't saved the data, or maybe you copied some interesting information from a web page, but got distracted and forgot to paste it where you wanted? Or you may simply want to recall what you were doing on your computer a month or a year ago. There are many cases in which you might want to review your clipboard contents.

Well this is the solution!

At any moment, you can view the clipboard history, copy the necessary item back into the Windows clipboard or paste it into an application. All you have to do is press the "Ctrl+0" key combination or click the program icon in the system tray.

What Can ClipCatch Do For Me?

  • Save a lot of time, day by day
  • Enable quick access to recently copied data for reuse
  • Help find the data copied a day or a week ago.

How does it work?

ClipCatch, which runs at Windows startup, will record everything copied to the clipboard into its database. ClipCatch can log clipboard history and record data in several formats: plain text, RTF (Rich Text Format). It has been invaluable to me at times, when i've forgotten what web site I was looking at the other day or when i'm on forums and I just want a very quick way to copy and save a section of text, just copy it and bang its saved for good, ready to be pasted any time I want, and in mine i'm making it so you can even edit the text after its been captured, just to many things it helps me with to say.

Instructions:

Hotkeys/Key Combinations:
  1. Ctrl + 0 (zero) = hide/show ClipCatch
  2. Shift + Ctrl + Up cursor = Scroll back in time through saved clips
  3. Shift + Ctrl + Down cursor = Scroll froward in time through saved clips

Main Window

Whilst in the main window you can see all the clips you have logged. You can click on a clip and it will show the content in the Edit Window.

"Double Click" on a clip in the main window it will paste that clip into the last window that you was working with called the (Target window). this can also be done by clicking the button on top of the main window called "Send to Target" (the green arrow), once the paste is done the Clip Catch windows will hide away again until you hit Ctrl 0 to show again.

"Copy To Clipboard" button will as it says copy the selected clip into the clipboard.

Clicking on the close X in the top right corner will not close the app but will hide it the same as Ctrl 0, to exit the app completely click on the "EXIT" (red) button on the main window.

Edit Window

This is just a display of the selected clip but can also be used to edit change or add to the clip then you can either hit copy the new data to the clipboard (which will make a new clip catch entry) as well as putting the new data into the clip board, or hit "Send to Target" which will paste the new edited content to the last used window (Target window). The ClipCatch windows will hide after paste until you hit Ctrl + 0 to show it again.

Whilst ClipCatch Windows are hidden

Whilst ClipCatch Windows are hidden you can use the hot keys Ctrl + Shift + Up and Ctrl + Shift + Down to show your clip logs one at a time in a tooltip which will be positioned at the mouse, when you find the clip you want just hit Ctrl + V (paste) and the clip will be pasted. This is especially helpful as you can be working on something and can recall previous clips and paste them without having to open the main windows, I use it a lot for scripting e.g. If I copy 5 different script commands I can then paste each of them into the place where I need them and do this as many times as I want I dont need to keep going back to the source text copy go back to target location & paste & back & forth etc etc.
