Recently I've been wondering why the hell my speed has been radily decreasing. After looking at my line, I saw I was dropping sync..Kind of my fault killing the conneciton on usenet, but I didn't expect a sync rate of 2.8mb!

As you will see in the convo with ash, In the space of an hour, I've managed to get put onto Interleaving and have my Loop loss/Attenuation change like your banging a prostitute!

I'm gonna carry out some diagnostics tomorrow before I go to work, but i'm not used to such low sync rates!!.

Looks like a call to Sky is on the cards...Tweaked on DMT and can only get a max sync now of 4mb which is even more annoying since its about 6mb short of what i can sync at!.

..No doubt I will have to go through the questions of "have you swapped your filter"

UPDATE: Sky messing on line.

When i finally got through to an english person, he couldn't do anything as OpenReach was down.

been changed onto normal ADSL atm

Funniest thing they managed to get my attenuation down, but everything is still far short of expcted.

Update:

Well after 45 mins, I have an LL5 SFI for 09/09/2010 between 08:00 - 13:00

Had to be that date as Im actually in the house and its my weekly day off!

Shout out to Stuart in Escalations/Faults overflow who actually sounded like he knew what he was on about and did everything by book...He has even put in the pre-order for the SFI2 Co-op and I got him to add following notes.

* Please check Drop wire, if needed, reterminate
* Perform apts test
* EU using standard NTE 5, fit NTE2000 if necessary
* Check pairs at exchange along with DP points
* Check D & E side
* If further time required, please state in reply back to SMC that a TRC visit is needed.
* No Special access requirements to premises

xD
..Dude was impressed to say the least haha

On another note, i'm a lil annoyed im on an interleaved line still and back onto normal ADSL, but if props my attentuation down, it should help my sync rate

well all i can say is how sorry it makes me feel for the layman when Spenc posts such problems ! obviously no one is immune, the networks are complex, many things can and do go wrong & the UK's old copper network as we know just ant up to it.

Glad to here that Sky have decently trained TS peeps as that always helps (especially if your not a Spencer :D).

keep us up to date on this Spenc, makes interesting & educational reading when your having problems , :)

Thx for your time,

It's not all plain sailing, trust me, had to hammer my way through level 1 tech.

If all my job notes have been put on, I'll be having a TRC visit more than likely lol

Ash...why don't you create intermittency :)

UPDATE:

If I can get my own way with Sky, I might be able to avoid this SFI going out.

I'm gonna ask they keep me on ADSL1 instead of 2 (that way my attenuation doesnt go up..5,6db makes all the difference!) and lower down my target SNR as everytime I try to lower it in DMT, all of sudden the exchange DSLAM won't accept it.

Since they use profiles..I'll ask to be put onto 8mb since RCO shows that and a 1mb upstream..see what they say.

EDIT: Also ask to take interleaving off

BREAKTHROUGH!!!

After over an hour trying to get through to the right folk!, I'm happy with that i have got :)

Basically, saw an OpenReach chap down the road, explained to him of my problem, reterminated drop wire for me (didn't fit NTE 2000, but ah well and didn't do anything else).

He says my line should now support about 8mb but 7 is safer.

Called Sky up to check for errors on line. About 4 users didn't know how to, got through to faults WHO ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT THANK GOD!!

Who advised me to keep on standard ADSL, rammed up the profile and should be good..DLM isn't turned on and will only be turned on if problem on my line card..which fingers crossed dont need.

Could have fastpath but may cause more instability on line..+ from what i hear, they don't like putting it on.

Cancelled my SFI, saved Sky about £150+ and couple hours of my day :)

Further update

I can't say I didn't expect it

As such with high sync and very very, very low SNR (abit too low for my liking..would prefer to have 5db, It appears im getting a load of HEC errors on the line..Now without interleaving, I think the connection would be screwed...

NEXT STEPS

I'll monitor this connection with the 7mb sync and see what happens..If it becomes an intermittent connection, i'll request a 6mb profile and see what happens...See all about the diagnostics people :)
