Seeing as this has now been officially announced I can move back into public viewing. It seems as though I was right all along, O2 have today announced a revamp of their broadband packages taking effect next week...

Quote

The new packages – features summary

The Basics – the perfect package for everyday surfing and email - 20GB with a 12 months OR 30 day rolling contract: £8.00 (O2 customer) or £13.00 (for non-O2 customers)

The All Rounder – the perfect package for the smaller households. You enjoy your music and catch up on your favourite TV - Unlimited with a 12 months OR 30 day rolling contract: £12.00 (O2 customer) or £17.00 (for non-O2 customers)

The Works – O2’s top notch broadband package best for downloading and watching movies, connected gaming and larger households - Unlimited with a 12 months OR 30 day rolling contract: £20.00 (O2 customer) or £25.00 (for non-O2 customers)

All packages include 24/7 UK based telephone technical support. Home phone bundles are available starting from as little as £15.50 for The Basics package.

UPDATE: One of the guys on the O2 forums has just clarified how the changes affect existing customers...

Quote

Hello Everyone,

I know a lot of people have asked question related to our new packages. I'd like to clarify that we’re not going to migrate everyone from our existing packages to the new ones, so the old T&C’s will be applicable for any existing customer. However the new packages will be offered when a new contract is signed.

Abs

UPDATE 2: It now looks like traffic shaping may indeed be coming to LLU if the latest post from the O2 Support guys is anything to go by...

Quote

Hi Fermatr1x & Ashproctor,

We have designed our new packages around the needs of customers. As a result we want to ensure that customers across the O2 LLU network have the best experience possible. Traffic shaping will only take place during peak hours and even on the lowest packages customers will be able to stream good quality video and music without noticing any deterioration on the service. At O2 customer experience is really important and as such we will not be compromising the service we provide.

Thanks

Abs

For those of you interested, here is the original post mentioning a POSSIBLE introduction of traffic shaping on LLU, O2 asked me to remove this post in April as it contained "confidential information":

Well word has it that O2 are looking at revamping their Broadband Packages as they've recently been sending out email asking select customers (registered on their 'Join In O2' site) to fill in a survey asking for customer opinions on the new packages.

Initial viewing seems to show that O2 are, at least, are considering limiting bandwidth usage on one of the packages, as well as implementing traffic shaping on them all. Here's some info on the 'new' packages:

The Basics - The great value one

For single user or single device households - one computer or device online at a time.

Ideal package if general web browsing is most of what you want to do online - shopping, emails, Facebook, decent iPlayer & YouTube, etc

Download limit of 20gb per month.

Speed: Upto 20Mb, subject to both the speed your line can handle. Certain traffic managed, depending on package.

The All Rounder - The balanced one

Multi User households - more than one person, computer or device online at a time

Great for families that need multiple access to the web to catch up with emails, Facebook, shopping

Good online streaming experience with iPlayer

Better connected experience: premium wireless router (wireless 'N' technology for better wireless range/less chance of drop outs)

Unlimited monthly downloads

Speed: Up to 20Mb, subject to both the speed your line can handle and the package you pick. Certain traffic managed, depending on package.

The Works - The ultimate one

Multiple users/multiple devices - several people, computers and devices all online at the same time, using the internet heavily

Great for heavier internet users that use the web to the max. Ideal for online gaming.

Best online streaming experience; especially for multiple users

Best connected experience:
- Premium wireless router - (wireless 'N' technology for better wireless range/less change of drop outs)
- faster upload speed

Unlimited monthly downloads

Speed: Upto 20Mb or the maximum speed we can offer you on your line. Peer to peer file sharing traffic is shaped at peak times.

Some screenshots of the proposed packaged can be found further down the page...

Cool, made me laugh :) this is exactly how it all started on access, Next step is to start invoking & then brining down the FUP on there LLU !

There is no reason they should need to use the fup on LLU unless they are just greedy money grabbing tyrants ! (which was the impression i was left with after my year with them) so watch out all you o2 LLU users , lol

p.s. i still say you should have left it up when o2 asked you to take it down at the time Ash . but yea you are completely vindicated  n1

Thx for your time,

Lol, it's not funny, it's gonna p**s a lot of people off if O2 start moving existing customers over to their new packages, which they say they won't do, but to be honest, I do have my reservations.

I just couldn't be doing with the hassle, however i'm still active over at 'Join In O2' and i'm still YET to find any sort of warning about content being confidential, so next time they slip up I will NOT be taking down any info. So be warned O2 (get it sorted)!!!

Well, looks like there may actually be traffic shaping on LLU after all, see 'Update 2' above.

I think it's going to be bye bye O2 at this rate!

Hello Jack,

Just droped you a PM on the O2 forum about this but I see you knew ages ago, I had not been on the O2 forum for quite some time, Plusnet was OK but I moved back to Zen but Sky have just LLU my exchange so I am going to try them next.

Happy New Year

We did have fun on the O2 forums when they traffic shaped the Access product, but hey we could not use the net for much :-)

aye well that was it , our connections just were not up to much else except posting on forums :D

Im quite happy now with Vivaciti who resell me a package from Enta, yea its got a cap but its plenty and its great to just know where you stand and a bonus of having a decent reliable connection.

yea we all said Ash should have left it up but he's the one who had to deal with the fall out in the end so i respect his decision , but yea good to see a corporation being consistent :D, lol.

hope you to had a good xmas etc , hope the next year is good to you :D

Thx for your time,
