Hard drives are about to undergo one of the biggest format shifts in 30 years. By early 2011 all hard drives will use an "advanced format" that changes how they go about saving the data people store on them.

The move to the advanced format will make it easier for hard drive makers to produce bigger drives that use less power and are more reliable. However, it might mean problems for Windows XP users who swap an old drive for one using the changed format.

ptff, bloody hell, im not surprised to much just another way of getting everyone to eventually have to "buy" win 7 although im sure there will be plenty of second user HDD's about for a good while and iv got loads of them kicking about somewhere anyhow. Also M$ are still servicing xp with updates etc and have said the would do for an extended period so maybe they will do something to compensate for this if its possible.

I didn't read the link but did it say how that might affect Linux ?

Thx for your time,
