Hi,

There's someone out there who is having problems with JDast as they keep putting in the "where did you hear about this software" box on installation that they keep getting errors and have to keep reinstalling.

  • 2010_01_21 This is a reinstall as it stopped working correctly
  • 2010_01_24 Had to reinstall as it stopped showing display. This is the second time

Thing is as i said in the disclaimer and on the pop-up the info i receive when you install is completely anonymous , there's no way i can contact you & therefore i cannot try to help out unless you contact me, either post something on this forum or even email me (my email is in the JDast help).

I must admit iv not heard of this problem before and its approaching 1000 people who have installed JDast, but if you would like to contact me i would be glad to try to help you with any problem you may be having.

Thx for your time,

because, as of disclaimer , and i quote

Main Config

I really need to get some idea of how many people are using my app for my benefit and also the people at Think Broadband have also asked. Because they supply the default test files if to many people are using this app they may need to address this situation. So i hope to collect two pieces of data. The first being a purely random serial number generated by the program upon installation, This serial is unique to you, which enables me to calculate how many copies of this program are being used. This data is only sent once, upon installation & again on update. This is absolutely anonymous and in no way can be traced or associated to the individual user. The second being the operating system that this program is being used on. So for an example from an individual installation i could be sent :-

92489827 Win XP x86

because his serial number is the same ! (the serial number above is just an example , not his real serial)

It wouldn't be completely anon if i was collecting IP's :)

I think iv managed to reproduce the problem outlined above and i have tried to fix it but the change iv made would not take effect until after its been updated to ver 11.2.

However im not 100% sure iv been able to remedy the problem but i did find that if you log out of your windows user account and then log back in it should be fixed.

It looks to be something to do with a mixture of my use of windows GDI_plus & killing the JDAutoSpeedTester.exe process instead of closing the app properly (which it does when its updating).

After ver 11.2 is installed properly i hope that future updates will not do this.

Thx for your time,
